The Useless Post Office

I don't know how true it is, but I have heard that the Post Office is or was the largest employer in the State of Maine.

I do know that Maine (and probably South Dakota, Wyoming and the like) national politicians are, understandably, very protective of the Post Office.

Even before the internet it was obvious to me that daily delivery of mail was unnecessary, that three times a week would be more than sufficient at least in residential areas.

I also could not understand why post office boxes cost money but HAND DELIVERED MAIL!!! was free.?Obviously CHARGING A FEE for mail to be taken to a given low volume address, but delivering free to high volume addresses was (and still is) the way to go.?This would encourage private enterprise to provide mail boxes.

I was in fact involved in one of the early private mail box operations at 102 Charles St., Boston which the PO mightily resisted EVEN THOUGH THEY LOST MONEY ON EVERY POB THEY RENTED!!!!!?Of course the PO LOSES MONEY (like Amtrak, on everything they do.

Today the PO still has an insufficiency of POB's, despite having a nearly infinite amount of poorly utilized square footage in a huge?number of buldings across the country (including in almost every building an office fora postmaster who no longer exists which woudl hold A THOUSAND POB's

Today, almost no one that performs any useful function in live would miss a daily deivery fo largely junk mail.?A decrease to three times a week would NOT EVEN BE NOTICED by the customers, and in fact ONCE A WEEK would be fine, especially if SPECIAL DELIVERY was reinstituted.?Special delivery daily of junk mail makes no sense,

Once a week delivery obviates the need for EIGHTY PERCENT OF BAD SWINGERS AND MOUNTED ROUTES, obviously at huge savings.

Charging for delivery, and special delivery at $10.00 or something a hit, would further reduce costs and increase revenue.

Lastly, CLOSE THE POST OFFICES that do not produce sufficient revenue per square foot, or move them all into 500 sq ft spaces in supermarkets like the banks (dumb as they are) are smart enough to do.

Time to get rid of Amtrak (a patently absurd idea to begin with) too!!

SEND REGULAR EMAILS to your idiot congressman or woman insisting that these egregious wastes of tax payer money be stopped!
