USEFUL tips... not clickbait "banter".

There was a lot of attention on an article yesterday whereby it "seemed" like a recruiter was giving advice to candidates, but it ended up upsetting a lot of people... so here is my version (just to try and combat the widely held opinion that we're all monsters).
1. Spend some time on your CV. You could be an absolute superstar in person and in your role, but if your CV doesn't say enough about you and your experience, you're on the back foot before you even start. Make sure it looks good, reads well, is properly formatted and, above all, is grammatically correct.
2. Tailor your CV (where you can) for the role you’re applying for. For example, if the vacancy is in DIGITAL marketing, and the words DIGITAL, WEB or ONLINE aren't anywhere to be seen on your CV, why would you expect to be selected for interview?
3. Lying on a CV is a big NO NO. You'll get found out pretty quick and it will be embarrassing for everyone, especially you. Expanding on relevant bits for a specific role is great, but don't tell porkies.
4. Don't be scared to let your CV spill onto 3 pages, but make sure it's written well, and the content is relevant (a good recruiter will be happy to advise on this for the specific role).
5. Ask as many questions to a recruiter as you feel is necessary. If the recruiter doesn't know, a good and honest one will tell you they don’t know, and will do their best to find out the answers (where appropriate).
6. Try and be as open as you feel comfortable with about salary. Us recruiters can sometimes appear insensitive when asking about packages and salary details. Please cut us a little slack, it’s a very relevant piece of information needed for us to represent you properly and give you the best shot at getting the role. Us knowing the intimate details of your P60 doesn't mean we're going to get straight on the phone to HEAT magazine, it means we can position you in the best way to get you the right offer.
7. The big one that got a lot of attention yesterday… apply for whatever you like until you LAND the perfect role. Any recruiter who gets you an initial telephone interview then tries to deter you from applying for anything else isn’t worth bothering with. That’s poor and selfish recruiting.

7 年Absolutely love this article and very helpful one to know about! Whilst the points you make can seem quite obvious, they are the most important one and the ones that often people forget about. I think there are a lot of recruiters out there that can be quite intimidating/pushy so good to know there are also the ones that care about the clients and are happy to offer advice!
