Useful ChatGPT Prompts for HR: 5 Sample Applications (with Prompts and Tips)

This was written by human:

ChatGPT is not perfect, and it does not need to be.

It just has to be good enough to help you with enough efficiency gains to optimize how you use your time and the activities you focus on, on a day to day basis. And, in this sense, ChatGPT is more than good enough.

For example, in the past we used to spend dozens of hours crafting the content of our Hacking HR learning programs. Today, those hours have been cut down by at least 60% with the use of ChatGPT.

We started the journey knowing that ChatGPT was not perfect, but good enough to help us optimize our time.

Then we asked it enough questions, we provided lots of context, we shared our voice and style, and all that together did the trick. Once we trained ChatGPT on all that, which also served to train ourselves in the best ways to take advantage of this tool, we were on a roll, saving lots of times to focus on what matters when designing a learning program rather than on mundane, simple, repetitive, automate-able tasks.

These are the most important tips you need to keep in mind when using ChatGPT:

  • It is not perfect, but good enough. Act accordingly
  • It generally uses "illustrative" data points (fake!). If you need real data points, ask for them and their sources, and check.
  • Your questions have to be very specific.
  • Provide examples of your writing style and voice and ask ChatGPT to give you responses using that style.
  • Be mindful about the annoying fillers ChatGPT uses. For example: "in the landscape of..."; or "the tapestry of..."; or "in modern organizations"... Etc. We can tell, right of the bat, when someone uses ChatGPT because they don't even take the time to enhance the message, but they leave those standard fillers in place. Please... don't. Remove them. They look ugly and not very elegant, and those of us who use ChatGPT a lot can definitely tell that you are using it without proper review of the end result.
  • When you get a generic response, provide lots of context and/or be more specific about your questions. Only then will you receive a better response.
  • Read thoroughly everything that ChatGPT gives back to you. Rewrite where needed to add your human touch.
  • Break down the complex stuff. Instead of asking a large complex question, be more specific and break down the topics you are working on.
  • Beware of funny words. For example, ChatGPT likes to use words such as: necessitates, compose, tapestry, weave, fabric, and others. These are real words, but you generally don't find them in most conversations by humans. So, this will "necessitate" that you are aware of the writings you "compose" using ChatGPT so that something that sounds too computer-y does not get in the "fabric" and "tapestry" of what you want to say.

ChatGPT has been incredibly useful for us and we wanted to share some ideas with you. Also, please make sure you enroll in our upcoming Certificate Program: Mastering ChatGPT (For HR Professionals).

Please see below some use cases. All of them built by ChatGPT without any human retouch. They are meant to get you excited about the possibilities!

?ChatGPT is not correct always. We should use technology as a tool and not really on it.

I find the ChatGPT provides incorrect answers, a lot. Which is good because it let’s us know we can’t rely on just chat. Love at the end when you tell the software that the answer was incorrect and it writes…”Yes, you are correct…..”Thank you for pointing out the omission.”
