Use TomTom APIs to find the best location to open a Chinese restaurant in Amsterdam
This is the topic I chose to work on for my final project of this stud - Coursera Specialization: IBM Data Science Professional.
Any data scientist would agree that it is crucial to be able to visualize data in the contexts. For this project, understanding the surroundings of candidate locations is the key.
TomTom Maps API and Search API help me to visualize the surroundings of candidate neighborhoods in a very intuitive way. I can find out the distribution of particular types of Point of Interests (for instance, Chinese Restaurants). I can see the number of restaurants in a particular neighborhood.
If you are interested in how exactly I utilize TomTom APIs in this project, take a look at https://developer.tomtom.com/blog/build-different/where-open-chinese-restaurant-amsterdam-using-tomtom-map-apis
If you are interested in the complete story that includes how I process demographic data to choose candidate neighborhoods, please look at my python notebook (it's stored in Github and you can download and run the project yourself. Every Github user can access this repository. Let me know if you run into accessibility issues.) https://nbviewer.jupyter.org/github/xding78/Sharing/blob/master/RestaurantQuest/RestaurantQuest_TomTomAPI_Full.ipynb
Have fun!
