Use of respirators with exhalation valve may not help prevent COVID-19 transmission

More than enough had been discussed on the use of face masks in preventing community transmission of COVID-19. The world is coming to the consensus that face-masks or at least some form of face covering should be worn when we are going out of our homes.

If you are wondering if the mask will protect you 100% from the virus. I will tell you nothing is sure in life. When everyone (Healthy or Infected) wears a good quality mask, wears it properly and ensuring good face fit the risk can be reduced to as low as possible.

Since the lifting of our circuit breaker, I have seen most people on the street wearing masks (except those jogging or pretend to jog). I became concerned with a few

1) Some wear their mask over their mouth but leaving their nose exposed. I do not have a nice nose but that is not the reason I keep my nose covered. It is just the correct way to wear

2) Improper fit - nothing to discuss, you will not wear an oversize shirt when going to work, why an oversize mask?

3) Mask with exhalation valves should not be used because it allows unfiltered exhaled air of the user to escape into the environment easily.
