Use Mind Mapping to Help in Logo Design

Logo design plays an important role in marketing for every company, regardless of its industry or target audience. In many instances, a company’s logo is a potential customer’s first exposure to a company and brand. But when it comes to choosing the right logo, it is bit tricky. There is one technique which has been practicing by many professional logo designers these days is mind mapping which you can also use to hone your skills for logo designing.

What Is Mind Mapping?

A mind map is an intricate web of thoughts, ideas, names, words and images that all stem from one central idea or word in diagram form. Mind mapping technique was developed by author Tony Buzan when he was a college student. Many designers use Mind Mapping to brainstorm and generate ideas. The loose and visual manner in which a mind map is created is not only a fantastic tool to 'free up' creativity, its a great way to communicate to clients, team members and professors while in a design's concept phase.

Why Mind Mapping for Logo?

Mind mapping helps designing a great logo. It helps you many ways.

For a company, it is bit difficult to define what actually it wants from a logo or what message the logo should convey. For start up organizations, they are unsure about their marketing pitch. In this situation, mind mapping helps a lot by letting the company to focus on the thing which is more important for them so that a logo can be designed accordingly.

The technique helps gathering ideas together and then assists you to ponder over it. You also organize your thoughts and you can able to realize the points that you have never thought over it.

Creating Logo Mind Map

As you know a map is started with a central idea. In this situation, just write down the ideas emerging in your mind by looking at the central idea. Each branch of the map focuses on the additional ideas, images and thoughts. Overall, your map will cover all important aspects related to your organization. It actually represents what you are thinking about your firm. It gives a clear hint to logo designers to create a logo that suits to your interest.

Points to Include in your Mind Map

These re the points which should be include in your mind map. The broad idea is to include anything that might be relevant.

  • Your industry and any specific images, ideas, or terminology that might relate to it.
  • Your company’s target audience: who are they, what do they do, and most importantly, what do they need?
  • Your company motto
  • Your company mission statement: what do you hope to accomplish?
  • Your company’s products or services
  • Your employees
  • Your company’s values

Your logo is the result of all these important things. They are matters a lot to design the best logo. In fact, you can think and analyse more deeply.

How to Use Your Mind Map to Communicate with a Designer?

It is important that your thoughts and ideas are expressed well to designers. For this it is essential to examine your mind map. Evaluate to find out which are more important and which are unnecessary. Highlights the important aspects and discuss the highlighted topics with your logo designer. You will have to explain all important aspect to the designer and try to ward off all the confusions. .

Being a professional logo designer, i always ask my clients to provide their mind map to develop a professional looking logo. This is an innovative concept which today’s companies are adopting to find their dreamed logo.
