USE MAGIC AS AN ICEBREAKER

I've always been fascinated with performing magic. I discovered many years ago that using a simple mentalism trick was an effective way to kick-off a sales call/presentation/training session. It not only relieved my anxiety but it usually got people to pay attention and set the tone for a more engaging meeting.

Try this with someone later today:

Step 1: Subtly redirect the conversion in a way that compares your product/service to something magical or explain how important it is to know what your potential customer is thinking.

Step 2: Ask them to choose a number between 1 and 9 (inclusive) but not tell you.

Step 3: Then, in their mind, multiply that number by 2.

Step 4: Without using their fingers, add 8 to the result and then divide that number by 2.

Step 5: Ask them to subtract their original number (between 1 and 9) from the previous calculation.

Step 6: They should now have a number between 1-26. Match this number with the corresponding letter in the alphabet. Example: 1=A, 2=B, 3=C, etc.

Step 7: What is the first country you think of that starts with that letter? Example: A=Afghanistan, B=Brazil, C=Canada, etc.

Step 8: Think of an animal that starts with the second letter in your country. Example: F=Falcon, R=Rabbit, A=Aardvark,

Step 9: What colour is that animal?

Everyone participating should now have a COUNTRY, an ANIMAL, and a COLOUR if they have followed the instructions correctly.

Clear your throat and say, "THERE ARE NO GREY ELEPHANTS IN DENMARK!" and watch more than 75% of your audience look at you with amazement. You now have their ATTENTION.
