Use Formulas in Your Work! Science and Scientific Thinking in Career, Business, Economic and Organisational Problem Solving and Goal Achievement

Thinking is the most important activity in the leadership and management of companies, economies, businesses and the environment. Knowledge is as important as it helps us to think better in the processes of making decisions and taking the necessary action to solve our problems or achieve our goals. Knowledge helps when we are dealing with very basic or routine work and activities in which our brain already has a pathway for producing the desired result. These are things like driving, drinking water, breathing and using machines like mobile phones and computers. Anything more serious requires real thinking and not just remembering.

Science and Scientific Thinking is Primarily About Problems and Their Solutions

Scientific is a very specific way of thinking related problem solving and producing desired results. The basis of scientific thinking is solving problems and generating or developing solutions. This type of thinking is one of the most powerful and most effective and most efficient ways of thinking; they produce results faster than any other way of thinking. Two of the core questions in science are;

  1. What is the problem? and
  2. What is the solution?

And in companies, organisations, businesses and economies these two are also critical, if not the most important management questions to answer in addition to the following questions;

  1. What is the desired situation?
  2. What is the actual situation?
  3. How do we create the desired situation?
  4. How do we maintain the desired situation or even improve it?

Problem Management

In many companies, organisations, businesses and economies,

  1. Problems arise and in some cases we fail to solve the problems
  2. People face situations in which they have goals and dreams but cannot figure out how to achieve those goals, manifest those dreams or meet those eeds

In some cases we fail to solve the problems or achieve the goals not because the problems are insoluble; not because the goals are not achievable. The main reason why we fail is because of

OUR APPROACH to the problem or to the goals.

This approach starts with our thinking-how we think about the problem or the goal. This is exactly why thinking about thinking is an important part of scientific thinking.

In science when we have a PROBLEM; we then seek the SOLUTION to the problem. We do not solve problems haphazardly or by throughtless trial and error.

First we try establish if there is an already KNOWN to the problem. If it is a goal we first try to establish if there is an already known solution for achieving the goal. If there is no known solution we create or generate a model solution that we then use to trial and solve the problem or to achieve the goal. This is all part of scientific thinking. In science THINKING is a extremely important.

Using Formulas

Many people associate formulas only with hard core mathematics. Formulas are also used in other scientific disciplines especially in chemistry and biochemistry. The principle of using formulas is also very powerful in the corporate world, in companies, businesses, organisations, economies and environmental management. What is a formula? Here are some basic definitions from the web;

  1. a mathematical relationship or rule expressed in symbols.

2. a list of ingredients with which something is made.

In fact, a real formula consists of both the ingredients and how they work together to produce a certain result, or product or outcome.

Formulas a powerful first because for them to be accepted as a formula they must have proven to produce the desired results. Second, when you use a formula you are able to establish where things are going wrong in the process of solving a problem, achieving a certain goal or pursuing a dream. Most formulas have specific steps or stages or sequences. This is by far more powerful than trying to achieve a certain goal or solving a certain problem by trial and error, without any predetermined approach or formula.

There are Already Many Formulas For Achieving Many Thinkings in Careers, Businesses, Companies, Organisations, Economies and in Environmental Management

Many companies, organisations, businesses and economies, when they struggle with problems and fail to produce desired results often attribute the failures to something beyond their control such as the economic or political environment. In many cases the economic and political environment will be a real problem. However, a more important reason for the struggle is the lack of a formula for stoping the struggle, resolving the issue or achieving the goal. This lack is in most cases relative rather than absolute. The distinction between the RELATIVE and the ABSOLUTE is important.

An absolute problem is that is real. A relative problem is a problem only in terms of your own perception or situation or circumstances. A relative problem often has a solution; only that the solution is outside your conscious awareness. An absolute problem often has no known solution and the solution has to be created or developed or generated. Here are examples:

  1. Unemployment problems are often relative rather than absolute. In every economy, there are some employment opportunities but some individuals may fail to recognise or discover the opportunities when others can discover the same opportunities and get employment.
  2. If a cyclone destroys the water supply network of a city causes water unavailability then that is an absolute problem. If there is a water shortage in your neighboured caused by a burst pipe when there is water in all the other parts of your city then you have a relative problem.

Using Formulas

If we had formulas for all the problems we face and for all the goals we want to achieve, we would have no problems. If we used formulas to address the major problems that we face in companies, organisations, economies, society and the world, then we would have very little of serious problems. Few problems would persist and worsen. In many companies and organisations, the use of thinking in generation, scientific thinking in particular and the seeking out and using formulas and other types of solutions is rare an limited mostly to the IT departments. Yet there are many formulas that already exist to solve problem in any areas of companies, organisations, businessess, economies and society such as

  1. Business start up formulas
  2. Business growth formulas
  3. Business turnaround formulas
  4. Business optimisation formulas
  5. Performance Transformation Formulas
  6. Goal achievement formulas
  7. Problem solving formulas
  8. Training improvement formulas
  9. Marketing success formulas
  10. Sales success formulas
  11. Career promotion formulas
  12. Board Leadership Formulas
  13. Organisational change management formulas
  14. Ceo success formulas
  15. Managerial success formulas

In many areas, things can be improved and simplified by generating and using formulas. But this is not how we think. Instead we think about things such as experience, expertise, general knowledge and so on. This is why we are facing growing challenges in our world even when we are getting more and more educated. Our problems is not the education; it is our ignoring using thinking to solve our problems and achieve our goals.

Let us go back to thinking!
