Situation: A large organization with multiple departments and teams was struggling with managing and tracking their AWS resources. They were facing challenges in provisioning new resources, tracking their usage and cost, and ensuring compliance with their internal policies.

Task: The organization needed a self-service portal that could enable their teams to quickly and easily provision AWS resources, while also providing visibility and control over their usage and costs. They also needed a way to enforce compliance with their internal policies and regulations.

Action: The organization implemented AWS Service Catalog and AWS Control Tower to create a self-service portal for their teams. They used AWS Service Catalog to create a standardized set of products that teams could provision through the portal, with pre-approved configurations and pricing. They also used AWS Control Tower to enforce policies and guardrails, ensuring that all resources provisioned through the portal were compliant with their internal policies and regulations.

In addition, they integrated AWS Cost Explorer and AWS Cost Anomaly Detection to provide real-time cost visibility and alerts to teams, helping them to stay within their budget and avoid unexpected cost overruns. They also used AWS CloudTrail and AWS Config to track and audit all changes made to their AWS resources, providing visibility and accountability to their teams.

Result: The self-service portal enabled teams to quickly and easily provision AWS resources without needing to go through a centralized IT team, which resulted in faster time-to-market for new projects. The use of standardized products and pre-approved configurations helped to ensure consistency and compliance across the organization. The real-time cost visibility and alerts helped teams to manage their costs more effectively, resulting in significant cost savings for the organization. The tracking and auditing capabilities provided by AWS CloudTrail and AWS Config helped the organization to meet their compliance requirements and provided visibility and accountability for all changes made to their AWS resources. Overall, the self-service portal helped the organization to become more agile, efficient, and compliant with their internal policies and regulations.
