Use the B’s to Beat Your Job Blues This Winter
As the days become shorter and nights grow colder this winter, it is easy to fall into a rut and start asking; ‘where is my motivation’? Instead of allowing yourself to follow this self-destructive path, take this opportunity to break the cycle and begin something new. Here are 5 easy B’s you can incorporate into your next few months to energize your career and help you regain your focus;
- Buddy Up: The old saying goes that misery loves company, but the truth is that finding the ‘right’ company can bring great inspiration. Search out those who you may aspire to be like for some guidance or look to mentor an up-and-comer. There is nothing more rewarding than playing a role in someone else’s success.
- Branch Out: Are there common interest groups in your area that you haven’t had the time to tap into yet? Whether it is a professional association or simply a recreational group, establishing a local network with like-minded individuals can reinvigorate you while also providing connections for future opportunities.
- Broaden Your Horizons: Find a topic outside of your current employment situation that you are passionate about and do a deeper dive. Take an online class, get a certification, seek out an apprenticeship – anything to get your creative juices flowing. Diversity is the spice of life and helps to establish a sense of balance.
- Build On Past Achievements: The end of the year can be a great time to reflect on past accomplishments. Determine which were most gratifying and utilize them to form SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time-bound) goals for your next venture.
- Body!: Establishing personal fitness as a priority will not only help your clothes to fit better, but it is clinically proven to help in the treatment of depression and anxiety. The extra energy you will incur from a regular exercise program will inspire you to achieve even more.
Use this time to challenge yourself and be the best you can B!

Do not seek to follow in the footsteps of the wise. Seek what they sought.
