Using Arc Fault Detection Devices (AFDDs) in all electrical systems, even before they become mandatory, is a prudent and safety-oriented approach, especially in the context of concerns regarding the value of human life and cost-driven decision-making in the UK:
1.????? Enhanced Safety
2.????? Preventing Accidents
3.????? Proactive Compliance
4.????? Long-Term Cost Savings
5.????? Protecting Assets
6.????? Liability Reduction

7.????? Insurance Benefits: Some insurance providers may offer reduced premiums for properties or businesses with advanced safety measures like AFDDs. This can result in direct cost savings, which should not be overlooked.
8.????? Environmental Responsibility: Electrical fires often result in the release of hazardous materials and contribute to environmental pollution. Proactively preventing fires by using AFDDs aligns with environmental responsibility and sustainability goals.
9.????? Peace of Mind: Knowing that your electrical systems are equipped with safety devices can provide peace of mind. This peace of mind is not only beneficial for homeowners but also for businesses, as it can lead to improved employee morale and productivity.
10.? Public Opinion and Reputation: Public opinion is increasingly influenced by companies' and individuals' commitment to safety and sustainability. Being proactive in enhancing electrical safety can contribute to a positive public image and reputation.
The concern about prioritising cost over safety in the UK can be addressed by advocating for and implementing safety measures like AFDDs voluntarily. Individuals, businesses, and regulators need to recognise that safety investments are not just expenses but long-term investments that can lead to overall cost reduction, improved safety, and a responsible approach to electrical system management.
Get your systems Designed at the earliest possible stage and ensure you stick to it, don't just change the design to save cost without checking how this will affect the outcome, that change could make the system unsafe!

1 年I would hope 56 years in the front line, an eventual admission of truth from the AFDD peddlers and a bundle of hard evidence against the untruths regarding AFDDs would be sufficient to calm this preposterous storm. Our labs have undertaken test after test after test to establish the credibility of these costly white elephants being fitted to Domestic and light commercial installations rather than where they truly belong, in heavier industrial installations with inductive loads. The peddlers of these things into domestic and light commercial installations are not interested in the safety of people and property. If these are mandated just look at the cash to be made from devices that do not stack up to scientific veracity! It's a commercial matter, nothing else! In the UK, BSI's JPEL/64 were at all times in league with the manufacturers made up of tremendous conflicts of interest. The RCBO is a wonderful innovation as would be AFDDs if and when installed in the correct installations.
I love that picture! On every project I recommend that the contractor install them and if they want to VE then they need to produce a risk assement of why they aren't required and agree to take 100% responsibility. Yes they are expensive but they are there for a reason. Contractors should be allowing for them from day one instead of VEing them before even sending out the quote.
