Do you really have the productivity you want?
So, you’ve got it all figured out. You make your bullet list, your to-do list, and even plan time frames to get stuff done! Now it’s time to use the 80/20 rule to increase your productivity.
First, what is the 80/20 rule? The 80/20 rule is very simple, it states that 20% of your efforts will result in 80% of your success.
How do I implement the 80/20 rule in my planning?
Before you prioritise your task/goal list you need to ask the following question…
Which task, when performed, will have the maximum results on my goal?
It is that simple. You should organise your tasks/goals in the order which they are most effective in achieving your goals. It doesn’t matter how long or short those tasks are. What matters most is what percentage of what you need will get accomplished.
Use the 80/20 to become super productive and efficient
This is where your planning and especially record keeping will help you get far more productive. We often do many tasks that are very similar in nature. Not only should you record that you did those tasks and when you did them, you should also record how LONG those tasks are taking you.
Over a short period of time, you can actually do a ‘cost-benefit’ analysis. You’ll weigh the time and effort of each task versus the results you get from performing it. The more precise you get, the more productive you will be.
Wouldn’t you rather get the majority of your tasks/goals/work done?
Accept that you may not finish all your goals and tasks, very few of us have 100% completion rates. But with proper discovery and measurement you can find out which one of your tasks/goals will lead to the largest results, then you can do the next one and so on. In time, you can also see which tasks lead to the least results and work to eliminate those goals, delegate those goals, or adjust them so they too lead to increased achievement.
