In a dramatic turn of events yesterday afternoon in Greenfield, Chaplain Delev, a chaplain with the United States Chaplain Corps (USCC www.uschaplains.us ), demonstrated remarkable poise and skill as he rescued a toddler from drowning in a backyard pool.
The incident unfolded around 3:00 PM when two-year-old Jacob Thompson wandered unnoticed into the pool area of his family's residence. Upon discovery by his parents, Jacob was found floating motionless in the water, prompting an immediate call to emergency services.?
Chaplain Menash Delev, who happened to be nearby, quickly responded to the distress call. As a trained USCC chaplain, he had received specialized training in CPR and crisis intervention, skills that would prove crucial in the moments that followed. Assessing the situation with calm resolve, Chaplain Delev immediately began performing CPR on the unconscious toddler.
Eyewitnesses recounted the tense scene as Chaplain Delev administered chest compressions and rescue breaths, his actions a testament to his expertise and readiness in the face of crisis. "He acted swiftly and decisively," said Mrs. Emily Wilson, a neighbor who witnessed the rescue. "It was clear he knew exactly what needed to be done."
After several critical minutes, Jacob began to show signs of responsiveness—a faint gasp and movement that signaled the return of life. Paramedics arrived soon after, continuing Jacob's care and transporting him to Greenfield General Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
