The USB4 v2.0 specification is officially released and downloaded, and supports a maximum speed of 120Gbps!
On September 1, the USBPromoter Group announced that the USB4 v2.0 version was about to be released. The official announcement of the USB4 V2.0 standard was: double the performance and support 80Gbps data transmission. (October 18) The USB4 v2.0 specification arrived as promised. USB-IF officially released the USB4 v2.0 version and released a 40M compressed file package on its official website for everyone to download: https://www.usb.org/document-library/usb4r-specification-v20
At the same time, a new "USB 80 Gbps" certification LOGO was released, which can be used for USB cables and devices up to 80 Gbps speed.
Products that have passed the official certification process of the organization will be able to use the "Certified 80Gbps" LOGO on the packaging.
If other devices even support 80 Gbps connections on certified computers, they will be able to use the 80 Gbps port LOGO.
If the certified cable can output 240 watts, it will have 80 Gbps, 240W LOGO, or 80 Gbps, 60W LOGO at 60 watts.

Note that most USB products are not certified, so you may not be able to see these LOGOs even if 80 Gbps devices and cables come out. Although USB-IF wants manufacturers to discuss speed and power output in their marketing materials, you will still see a list of products that only mention USB4 v2.0, USB4 or USB3.2, but not Gbps. The USB4 was released in 2019. At that time, it supported connectivity up to 40 Gbps and provided cross compatibility with Thunderbolt 3 and 4. USB4 version 2.0 has doubled the maximum speed to 80 Gbps, but the speed can be even higher. The one-way uplink can be up to 120 Gbps (using 40 Gbps downlink), which provides power for high-resolution displays.
With USB4 v2.0 bandwidth, this standard is fully compatible with DisplayPort 2.1. It can power 4K displays at a frequency of up to 240 Hz and 10K displays at a frequency of 60 Hz without compression.
Type C connector becomes the biggest winner
In addition to the soaring data transmission rate, USB4 has also brought about an increase in charging power. For example, it supports the super fast charging of up to 240W . Type-C is exactly the appearance standard of USB connectors, which can be interpreted as USB 4 is a technical specification, The Type-C connector is its physical hardware, which means that Apple will not abandon Lightning and embrace USB Type-C any more. In terms of fast charging and transmission, it will be far removed from the Android camp that supports Type-C. Compared with Lightning, USB Type-C has at least three advantages: full function, downward compatibility and ultra-high speed. At present, the largest market of USB Type C interface is concentrated in smart phones, tablets, laptops, cars, wearables and homes. It is the hardware revolution with the most determined technical route, the most significant linkage effect and the most significant scale.
On October 4, the European Parliament overwhelmingly passed a bill. Since the end of 2024, all portable intelligent devices must use USB Type-C interface. From 2026, the standard interface of laptop computers will also become USB Type-C, that is, unifying the Type-C interface is almost a dead order. Apple should bow its head no matter how stubborn it is. MFI data cable manufacturers should note that Apple executives confirmed that they would comply with EU regulations and turn iPhone and other products to USB-C interfaces
With the release of the technical specification of USB4 2.0, the terminal manufacturers equipped with this technology will significantly improve the selling points of their products, thus becoming indirect beneficiaries. The manufacturers responsible for the manufacture of Type-C connectors and cables will be the direct beneficiaries. Take the latest iPad 10 as an example, because it is equipped with Type-C interfaces, you must purchase Type-C cables if you want to charge.
