If a disruption like the one in Gatwick were to hit any major airport here in the USA during the Holiday season it would be an economic disaster of epic proportions.
No end in sight to Gatwick disruption
- About 110,000 passengers on 760 flights were due to use the airport on Thursday
- Gatwick Airport said police did not want to shoot the drones down because of the risk from stray bullets
- Army called in after tens of thousands of passengers affected by drone sightings at Gatwick Airport
- Gatwick's runway remains closed after the drones were seen nearby
- Flights are unable to take off or land
- Sussex Police: 'Nothing to suggest that this is terrorism-related'
- Passengers due to travel have been told to check the status of their flight
Gatwick Airport to remain closed 'for the foreseeable future' following shutdown due to mystery drones:
So who is going to take responsibility for this to allow in the first place??? NO ONE! The economic impact by the minute is most definitely north of 6 figures. This is not a new phenomena; any commercial airport to be in operation without ANTI-UAV technology is asinine and anyone who thinks that this is just an isolated incident is an idiot!
Local, State, National and International governments will say "Oh the technology costs to much" or "We are maxed out physically and can't worry about this right now." Well this will be the first of many disturbances that will terrorise national and international airports.
So while the Aviation Industry and media keep hyping glorified quadcopters there are many individuals and or groups looking for an easy way to not only cause chaos but in all likelihood kill people while keeping there hands on the remote.
It's time NOW to wake the hell up!

5 年Exactly. Too often authorities avoid proactivity - resulting in a huge cost & inconvenience.

6 年How are the drone jammers going to work with vision-based SLAM navigation systems? Skydio already has a fully vision-based consumer product on the market. Won't be long until there are commodity versions that can provide position estimates to other flight controllers as well. Jamming RF is also dangerous to do around airports.
