US TikTok Doomsday Prep: 5 Steps to Save Your Following Before the Clock Runs Out

TikTok, TikTok... Oh, how the clock TikToks... in the US that is.

If you’re like me, you might’ve joined the TikTok world a little late. I held out for months, avoiding it like a dog avoids snow booties—sure, it’s practical, but it felt weird at first. Fast forward six months, and I’m fully in love with the platform. I’ve even built a little community, with over 100 followers and more than 3,000 likes!

Okay, I know those numbers might not break records, but they mean everything to me. When I started, I told only a handful of people in my network. Everyone else who follows me is there because they want to be, not out of obligation. That’s huge for me!

But now, with the looming possibility of a TikTok ban, I feel a little heartbroken. What happens to this community I’ve built? And then it hit me - I’m not losing them. I just need to invite them to the community shelter, which in this case is Instagram for me.

That’s when I realized other creators might need this reminder too. Whether or not TikTok gets yeeted out of the U.S., here are 5 steps to save your TikTok following and keep your community thriving:

1. Download and Save Everything

Drafts, content feed, favorite clips—save it all. Yesterday, I spent an hour making sure my content was backed up. You never know when you might want to reuse or repurpose your work, so don’t let it vanish into the ether.

2. Boost Your Other Platforms

Start ramping up your presence on other platforms now. Share TikTok-style content to prime your audience for what’s to come. Announce to your followers that you’re ready to welcome them on [insert your chosen platform here]. Whether it’s Instagram, YouTube, or even an email list, pick one main place to make it easy for them to find you.

3. Tell Your TikTok Audience Where to Go

Don’t assume they’ll know! Be direct!

"Don't forget to Doomsday prep with me over on IG: @jrwconsultingllc.

4. Slide into the DMs

If you’re comfortable, send personal messages to your most engaged followers. This is a great chance to strengthen connections and redirect them to your new hub. Bonus: It’s a fun way to start conversations!

"Hey y'all, I'm TikTok-Ban prepping over on IG. I'd love for you to join me at @jrwconsultingllc"

5. Deliver Value Everywhere

At the end of the day, people follow you for you. Keep sharing the high-value, entertaining, or informative content they love across all your channels. Add exclusive content or behind-the-scenes glimpses to keep things fresh and exciting.

Do you think TikTok will really get banned? Let’s chat - what’s your backup plan? Drop your thoughts below!
