The US Ambassador to Pakistan, Donald Blome, expressed support for Pakistan's ongoing program with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to overcome its financial and economic challenges. He emphasized that the US wants to see Pakistan succeed in the program and that stability and prosperity are top priorities. Blome also stated that the US does not pressure Pakistan to choose between economic relations with China or the United States, and trade ties with multiple partners are important for economic prosperity.
Blome highlighted the strong engagement between the US and Pakistan, with a focus on trade, investment, clean energy, health, security, climate change, and regional security. He emphasized that business ties between the two countries are crucial for the future and mentioned that the US is Pakistan's largest single exports market and source of foreign investment. Blome also mentioned President Joe Biden's pursuit of a modern industrial innovation strategy, which includes partnerships with countries like Pakistan.
Climate change was identified as a top priority for the US-Pakistan relationship, and Blome stated that the US is committed to supporting Pakistan's goal of increasing the share of renewable power generation. Efforts are being made to design an open and transparent procurement system, attract more private investors to the renewable power sector, and expand the green energy footprint in Pakistan.
Overall, the US Ambassador expressed optimism about the future of US-Pakistan relations and emphasized the importance of a stable and prosperous Pakistan for both countries.
