In the last quarter of 2021, Raw Selection sent out a salary survey to our US based candidates.
We were focusing on the following job titles: Associate, Senior Associate, Vice President / Investment Manager, Principal / Investment Director, and Partner.
The majority of participants were Vice President / Investment Manager, at 28%. The second highest number of participants were Partner, at 22% of survey participants.
One of the first questions asked in the survey was about the number of employees in the participants organization.
32% of the participants worked in an organization with between 21-50 employees, and 24% of survey participants worked in an organization with between 51-100 employees.
The less popular categories included organizations with below 10 employees, at 8%.
Out of all the participants, 95% were male, and 5% were female.
We also asked participants about their current basic salaries.
The most popular answer for salary was $150,001 to $200,000, in which 30% of participants are currently on this salary.
The second most popular salary was $125,001 to $150,000, in which 17% of participants are currently earning this salary.
The third most popular was $200,001 to $250,000, in which 13% of participants are currently earning this salary.
Only 0.7% of participants are currently earning $350,001 to $400,000, 1.5% are earning $80,001 to $100,000, and 4.5% are earning $300,001 to $450,000.
The most popular salary for Partners was $500,001+, at 30% of participants selecting this answer.
For Vice President / Investment Managers, the most popular salary was $150,001 to $200,000, in which 55% are earning this in their current role.

$150,001 to $200,000 was the most popular salary for Principal / Investment Director, in which 33% of participants picked this salary.
For Senior Associates, $125,001 to $150,000 was the most popular salary, with 50% earning this salary currently.
In the private equity industry, bonuses make up a huge part of pay per year.
28% of participants earn a 101%+ bonus, which was the most popular bonus as a percentage of salary.
The second most popular answer was a 100% bonus, in which 18% of participants are earning this.
10% of participants are getting less than 24% bonus, and 10% are getting between 25% to 49% bonus as a percentage of their salary.
Our final question in the survey was about carry as part of compensation.
A huge 70% of participants get carry as a part of their compensation, with 30% not getting this.
Overall, Raw Selection’s 2022 salary survey for private equity professionals in the US has proved effective in informing employees about what they should expect as a salary, bonus, and compensation in their role.
