US Reverses Stance on India, Calls It a ‘Vibrant Democracy’ After Biden's Controversial 'Xenophobic' Remark

In a significant turnaround, the United States has praised India as a "vibrant democracy," just weeks after President Joe Biden’s controversial remark labeling India as "xenophobic." This shift was articulated by John Kirby, the White House National Security Communications Advisor, who highlighted India’s robust democratic processes during a recent press conference.

Kirby stated, “There are not too many more vibrant democracies in the world than India. We applaud the Indian people for exercising their ability to vote and to have a voice in their future government. We wish them well throughout the process.” This acknowledgment underscores the importance of the ongoing general elections in India and the strength of its democratic framework.

Further emphasizing the growing bond between the two nations, Kirby noted the deepening of the India-US relationship under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership over the past three years. “Our relationship with India is extremely close and getting closer,” he said, referencing the successful state visit last June which launched various initiatives in critical emerging technologies and enhanced the Indo-Pacific Quad, a strategic alliance that includes India.

Kirby also highlighted the extensive people-to-people exchanges and military collaborations between the two countries, describing the partnership as "very vibrant, very active."

When questioned about President Biden’s earlier comments implying xenophobia in countries like India and Japan, Kirby clarified that the president was making a broader point about the inclusivity of the American democracy. “The president was making a broader point here about the vibrancy of our own democracy, here in the United States, and how inclusive and participatory it is,” he explained.

President Biden’s previous statement suggested that economic struggles in countries like China, Japan, Russia, and India were due to their xenophobic attitudes toward immigration. This comment sparked significant controversy, particularly in India. In his clarification, Kirby emphasized the value of immigration to the United States, stating, “The United States is a nation of immigrants, and it’s in our DNA… We’re better for it, we’re stronger for it.”

This recent praise from the White House marks a notable shift in rhetoric and highlights the dynamic and evolving nature of the India-US relationship, reinforcing the importance of democratic values and international partnerships.

21st day : My advice to customers: Think twice before buying any VOLTAS product. Voltas customer care is sub-standard. I am having a horrid time with Voltas, where the technician provided wrong solution, swindled money and Voltas is yet to send me the bill/receipt even after more than 21 days. Customer care keeps giving me false hopes of resolution. Only lip service, without resolution. I wrote to the topmost management and they too seem to have shut their eyes and ears. Overall a very poor service from Voltas. #Voltas A TATA Enterprise
