The USCIS (U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services) is releasing 2023 data that shows the agency’s development in meeting its strategic priorities. The USCIS labour force has worked vigorously over the past year to support America’s promise as a nation of welcome by decreasing backlogs, addressing humanitarian needs, improving customer experience, and strengthening employment-based immigration.

USCIS Director Ur M. Jaddou said, “I’m so proud of the USCIS labour force and our commitment to integrity, fairness, and respect for all we serve.” He also said, “We’ve made a record number of completing 10 million pending cases around the globe with essential compassionate relief and applied creative solutions to improve customer experience and reduce backlogs.”

USCIS reduced overall backlogs by 15%

The USCIS accepted 10.9 million entries in 2023 and finished more than 10 million pending cases–record-breaking numbers for the agency. By doing this, USCIS decreased total backlogs by 15%. In FY 2023, the agency administered the pledge of devotion to more than 878,500 new U.S. citizens, including 12,000 members of the military, successfully removing the backlog of conditioning applications. The median processing time for conditioning applicants reduced from 10.5 months to 6.1 months by the end of 2023, reaching the agency’s established goal and significantly reducing waiting times for most individuals looking for U.S. citizenship.

Improving Customer Experience

The US implemented Several new technology solutions that meaningfully promote the customer experience for those navigating our immigration system. Our new self-service tool for online re-reserving of biometrics arrangements was used to reschedule over 33,000 such appointments in 2023. Change of address capabilities enabled over 430,000 address changes to be submitted online through Dec. 2023. This tool is anticipated to lower USCIS Contact Centre phone inquiries by up to 31%, or roughly 1.5 million inquiries annually.

The USCIS received over 16,000 appointment requests from August to September 2023 using our online request form.
