US President Joe Biden Nominates Arun Subramanian Indian-American as US District Judge

Arun Subramanian, an Indian-American attorney, has received US President Joe Biden’s nomination to serve as a US District Judge for the Southern District of New York.

If approved, Subramanian will be the first South Asian judge to sit on the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, according to a statement issued by the White House on September 2.

In Biden’s twenty-sixth round of nominations for federal court posts, Subramanian is one of 8 new nominees.

At Susman Godfrey LLP in New York, where he has worked since 2007, Subramanian is presently a partner.

The National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) issued a statement of congratulations as soon as his nomination was made public.

Acting NAPABA President AB Cruz III stated the following in the statement that, “Mr. Subramanian is an experienced trial and appellate attorney with a strong track record of pro bono service. A child of immigrants, he became the first lawyer in his family, and we are proud to see him represent our community. We urge the Senate to swiftly confirm him.”

Subramanian has long had a position on the pro bono panel for the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, according to his biography on the Susman Godfrey website.

Additionally, he is the chairman of the Susman Godfrey 2022 Pro Bono Committee.

Additionally, it is claimed that Subramanian has fought for public entities, whistle-blowers in False Claims Act cases, victims of child pornography trafficking, consumers, and people harmed by unfair and illegal practises.

For more than a decade, Subramanian has concentrated on complex commercial litigation, including antitrust, patent infringement, and breach of contract cases.

Subramanian, a former Director of the Columbia Law Review, earned his Juris Doctor from the Columbia Law School in 2004.

He worked as a legal clerk for three federal judges:

• For Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who served on the American Supreme Court from 2006 to 2007;
• For Judge Gerard E. Lynch, who presided over the Southern District of New York’s federal court from 2005 to 2006;
• For Judge Dennis Jacobs in the Second Circuit of the United States Court of Appeals in 2004 and 2005.
