US pilot threatened to shoot Captain mid-flight

??Jonathan J Dunn, an Air Force Reserve lieutenant colonel and former Delta Airlines First Officer, is currently on trial in the United States for an act committed during a commercial flight in August 2022. The indictment, which was filed last October in a Utah district court, alleges that he used a "dangerous weapon" to assault and intimidate a member of the flight crew during the flight.

??The incident occurred after the Captain decided to divert the aircraft because there was a sick passenger on board. Dunn allegedly threatened to shoot the Captain "multiple times" with a firearm because he "disagreed" with this decision. Fortunately, the Captain managed to defuse the situation and the flight continued without incident.

??Jonathan Dunn was authorised to carry a firearm by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). American law justifies carrying a firearm since pilots have authority on board and could use it to defend passengers. Dunn faces up to 20 years' imprisonment.
