US opens the Overseas Private Investment Corporation office in Argentina
Before the end of April, the arrival to Argentina of this intergovernmental entity is expected, which plans to invest millions in financing energy and infrastructure projects. Since November of last year when it was agreed with the Trump Administration, several managers of that investment fund came to Argentina to analyze potential projects where to lend money to lower financing costs and the risks inherent to an investment.
The Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) is a self-sustaining U.S. Government agency that helps American businesses invest in emerging markets, similar to Eximbank. OPIC provides businesses with the tools to manage the risks associated with foreign direct investment, fosters economic development in emerging markets, and advances U.S. foreign policy and national security priorities. OPIC fulfills its mission by providing businesses with financing, political risk insurance, advocacy and by partnering with private equity investment fund managers.
All OPIC projects adhere to high environmental and social standards and human rights, including worker's rights. By mandating high standards, OPIC aims to raise the industry and regional standards in countries where it funds projects. OPIC services are available for new and expanding business enterprises in more than 160 countries worldwide
