U.S Government Increases Spending on Cybersecurity
?In preparation for 2023, the House of Representatives has been drafting plans for the government’s spending bills. These plans outline their expected spending for agencies, programs, and more… but most interestingly, in the next year, they plan on spending over 15 billion on cybersecurity.
With the increased reliance on technology in the past few decades, there is more stress on keeping information protected and secure. As a result, the U.S. government plans on channeling approximately $11 billion toward the Department of Defense, with the rest of the money going toward the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and other agencies.
According to the members of the House, the investments in cybersecurity are meant to help protect the nation against increasingly dangerous and elaborate cyber attacks.
There have been increasing bigger attacks in the past two or three years, such as the attack on the Colonial Pipeline in 2021. That might be one of the reasons behind the statement given by President Joe Biden earlier in 2022, expressing, “I urge our private sector partners to harden your cyber defenses immediately.”
This money in these departments would allow for proper investment into resources such as new tools and opportunities. This would hopefully keep them ahead of any hackers or cybersecurity attacks that will come in the future.
