Urging Senators Manchin & Sinema to Support Voting Rights
Dear US Senators Manchin & Sinema:
Thank you for your service to the American people.?I urge you to support a Senate vote on the Freedom to Vote Act (S.2747) and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (S.4)
For nearly 20 years I protected and promoted the voting rights of Asian Americans. As a voting rights attorney at the Asian American Legal Defense and Education Fund (AALDEF), I know first-hand the barriers that new Americans face in accessing the electoral franchise.
I have filed lawsuits against states and cites for violations of the federal Voting Rights Act on behalf of Asian American voters.?I have submitted a dozen briefs to the U.S. Supreme Court on voting rights.?Congress summoned me to testify before House Judiciary Committee on voting barriers in the 2008 Presidential Election. ?I have published 20 scholarly legal and academic articles.?
The Freedom to Vote Act (S.2747) and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act (S.4) will broaden access to the ballot box. Nationwide standards for ballot access such as
will help to fully realize Senator Manchin’s belief that “[V]oting is basically the foundation of our whole democracy.”
?I hope you will support these bill and vote in support to Cloture to prevent a filibuster.
?Sincerely,
Glenn D. Magpantay, Esq.?
