Urgent Care Center - Our New Doctors

In your daily travels, have you driven by an Urgent Care Center? You know -- those mini hospitals that provide you and your loved ones with in-the-moment medical treatment for virtually any non-life-threatening condition? Yes those. Chances are that, unless you’ve been living on another planet lately, you’ve passed by an urgent care facility and like me, have been hearing a lot about the growth of the Urgent Care Center space. As the CFO of a successful digital marketing agency, I watch carefully for emerging industries and if you’re anything like me, you too have become curious about the growth of the urgent care space.

So what exactly are urgent care centers and why are so many popping up along the roadsides we travel down each day?

Recently I had the pleasure of attending an open house at Family First Urgent Care, in Oakhurst, New Jersey. It was eye-opening to meet Dr. Dennis Mojares and his staff and learn how an urgent care center operates and serves its consumers.

Urgent care centers are painless (pardon the pun) alternatives to emergency rooms, for instance. Who hasn’t visited an emergency room for a minor injury, cut, bruise or bump? And who among us, when being treated for these minor, but important medical needs, hasn’t spent the better half of their entire day in an emergency room? Well urgent care centers give us an easy and quick alternative to the busy, hurry-up-and-wait exercise that emergency rooms are known to be.

And even when your needs don’t require an ER, urgent care centers offer a flexible, more timely approach to the care we ordinarily seek from our trusted primary care doctors. When trying to arrange an appointment with your primary care physician, often times the office’s schedule puts your appointment out to the next millennium. Urgent care centers are there yet again with an easier, more convenient substitute. In many ways, urgent care centers represent an extension of my primary care physician. Sure I want access to the physicians I have entrusted to my care for many years. But as my new doctors, urgent care centers are at my disposal with far fewer hoops to jump through than is typical. In this way, urgent care centers symbolize a new arm of my primary doctors when seeing my primary is too burdensome to my circumstances.

And the benefits of urgent care centers don’t even stop at the ease of treatment or the ways that they represent a standby to my primary. For example, what good is the flexibility of urgent care if the costs of receiving it are too high to afford? Believe it or not, most major medical insurance is honored at your neighborhood urgent care provider. So when my loved ones or I need care that doesn’t constitute a life-threatening emergency, and getting to my primary doctor isn’t sensible, I can count on my insurance covering my expenses at my nearby urgent care center.

But even with such a wealth of attractive reasons to consider urgent care, what is most interesting to me personally about urgent care centers is their ability to serve impulse consumers. As a digital marketer, I find the urgent care service delivery model especially fascinating. As an alert advertiser, I stay acutely aware of the in-the-moment needs of consumers because, as that marketer, I need to be mindful of how people need services delivered. When it comes to serving a spur-of-the-moment need, urgent care centers are hard to top. When you need a flu shot, need a blood test, hit your head on the kitchen cabinets, fall at work, cut your finger or twist an ankle, an urgent care center is as nearby as your cell phone. Simply Google an urgent care center, and your cell phone and Google location settings do the heavy lifting. Within minutes, that urgent care center down the block from you has earned your business.

Urgent care centers are my new doctor for illness, injuries and other medical care that isn’t life-threatening. Many are even open 24-hours per day, seven days per week and 365 days per year.

Easy.

Urgent care centers are a reliable, professional facility to get health care when you can’t see your doctor and don’t want to grow old in your local ER.
Urgent care centers are convenient and efficient, which explains the boom we’re seeing. Think about it. They are open when your doctor is not and when emergency rooms are jam-packed and over-populated. For all of these reasons, I treat urgent care centers as an extension of my general practitioner.

We have the same concept here in scotland . I dont how many times i have used it. But is great for when you have an emergency but not life thretening . It helps cuts waiting times in the ER at the surrounding hospitals and also more inviting for kids also.

Good article. Went to an urgent care last week for the first time and was very satisfied by the services provided. Much easier than the emergency room and easier than getting an appointment with my regular physician.
