Dear Gymnastics Community,
Recent revelations regarding the mishandling of sexual assault allegations against Larry Nassar by the FBI have sent shockwaves through the sports community. It's a stark reminder of the consequences when concerns about athlete safety are ignored or brushed aside.
Just as disturbing is the parallel we see with the delays and inaction surrounding safety concerns in gymnastics equipment, particularly spring floors. The reluctance or inability of regulatory bodies like Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to swiftly investigate and address potential safety risks is deeply troubling.
The Nassar case illustrates the devastating impact of bureaucratic inertia and a lack of accountability. We cannot afford to let history repeat itself. Athletes deserve better. They deserve to train and compete on equipment that is not only performance-enhancing but also safe and reliable.
As a community, we must demand transparency, accountability, and swift action from all stakeholders, including regulatory agencies, gymnastics federations, and equipment manufacturers. Athlete safety should be non-negotiable, and it's time to hold those responsible for ensuring it to the highest standards.
