???? Urgent Appeal - Solidarity with Morocco ????

???? On September 8, 2023, a powerful earthquake struck Morocco, killing at least 2,200 people and injuring over 2,000 more. The earthquake's epicentre was in the south of Marrakech; the most affected cities are Tahanout, Ourika, Imlil...

I am currently in Morocco, and reports from NGOs I am in contact with on the ground indicate that international aid has not yet reached the most remote areas hardest hit by the earthquake.

The Atlas Mountains are difficult to cross, which is why, together with Nuno Veloso , we have created a fundraiser for Afoulki, a women's charity in Tahanout, near the epicenter, which is helping hundreds of families on the ground by providing them with emergency kits including food, water, shelter, and anticipating of reconstruction.

As international help is struggling to reach these remote regions, your donation DIRECTLY TO AFOULKI?will help?provide food, shelter, and medical care to the women and children?affected by the earthquake. It will also help them rebuild their homes and businesses.

Updates

1?? We have no words to describe the immense solidarity we have experienced as of today. From the tireless efforts of our team and friends on the field to your extreme generosity online.?

We broke the incredible mark of 23.000€ in less than 48 hours.?We are extremely grateful to all of you for your contributions.?They?all make a big difference and will be even more important as we start rebuilding.

In the words of Zahra, president of Afoulki

We are extremely grateful to everyone who contributed so far, the first 72h were crucial in getting the emergency aid. We managed to reach a few remote villages for immediate relief, our next immediate step is to plan for reconstruction, which can take years. Shoukran.

2?? We are coordinating logistical actions from Marrakech, where the goods are purchased, and then transported by 4x4 to Tahanout.

3?? The first 4x4s left this morning to meet Afoulki and deliver the first emergency kits.

4?? Afoulki has become a collection point for other private actions. The donations collected are then distributed (on foot or by mule) between the villages, the most affected being in the Moulay Brahim region.

5?? We continue to coordinate actions: fundraising and logistics between volunteers and the association.

6?? Right now we are coming back from the area of?Ijoukak at a very slow pace. A lot of?roads are blocked due to do debris and rock falls, as well as road traffic. People from villages?further up are coming down with mules to pick up the supplies from us.

How can you help?

?? For now, by donating through the Cotizup fundraiser here. Donations fund on-the-ground actions: purchase of gasoline, food, medicine, blankets, etc.

Every little helps! 10€ is enough to buy 100 loaves of bread or 15 bottles of water.
