What makes a space welcoming?
On May 5th,?Co-Executive Director Ryan Lo?and?Project Coordinator Jane Law?ran a workshop at the?Welcome Centre.?Youth participated in a design charette to get them thinking about why spaces are designed the way they are and proposed their ideas for a redesigned parking lot behind the Centre.
We also ran them through an introduction of urban planning and a 'day in the life' of a planner. We're so proud of how engaged these youth got in the design process and how thoughtful they were about so many design elements for this particular space!?
Flipping the Script!
Never underestimate the strength of?youth voices!?
Our?Co-Executive Director, Ryan Lo,?led a panel discussion on?May 3?with young changemakers. The discussion focused on the significance of youth's involvement in city building, which adults often dominate. During the conversation, we explored various topics, such as ActiveTO bike lanes, local youth programs, and the Ontario Science Centre. It was an enjoyable experience exchanging ideas on how changes and obstacles in our city can significantly affect the well-being of young people.
A big thanks to?Jane's Walk Toronto?and? The Bentway?for co-hosting this incredible event, and a?special shout-out to our panelists, Raisa Chowdhury, Hafeez Alavi, and Angelina Wang.?
