URBAN GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE AND THE PROPERTY SECTOR - MAINSTREAMING GREENER CITIES

No alt text provided for this image

Policy, research and advocacy is a very important element of raising the profile of urban green infrastructure. Yet, to become truly mainstream, the property sector has to embrace the implementation of all the various forms of ecosystem services in the urban realm:

  • green roofs
  • green walls
  • sustainable urban drainage
  • healthier and greener landscapes for both people and wildlife

EUGIC brings together thought leaders from the property sector including Berkeley Homes and ENGIE to discuss how leading companies are challenging the perception of urban green in their sector. Chaired by Professor Andrew Edkins of the The Bartlett Real Estate Institute, who has a depth of knowledge and experience of infrastructure in the retail estate world, this session is new to EUGIC. And I would argue unique for green infrastructure conferences in the UK and Europe.

EUGIC will also see the launch of the new London green roof report that celebrates 10 years of the London green roof policy. Whilst many property developers were resistant to delivering green roofs 10 years ago, the report shows that the property sector has not only delivered but also embraced green roofs (and green walls) as important part of their business strategies. Advertising living in nature has become a theme in some developers approach to attracting customers. As well as delivering greener places for people to live, some companies are also committed to delivering net gain for biodiversity and in the long term environmental net gain.

This session will be of interest to a wide range of professionals involved in delivering green infrastructure in the cities, towns and even villages in the UK and across Europe. And our speakers will point the way, hopefully, so that others in the property sector follow suit.
