Partner spotlight: How Kita uses Lens in carbon insurance

For most of us, it’s a safe bet to say we don’t get excited when we hear the word insurance (sorry insurance friends). But what if — and hear us out — it was easy?and?could help combat climate change??Whoa whoa, you might say. That’s bold. Brave even? Okay let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Definitely bold, and… actually happening already. Read how Kita does it.

Lens

No, this is not photoshopped. Real!

From being an actual answer to a Jeopardy question (no big deal) to a Lens Lab for tracking wildfire to the launch of Lens Lookout – our team had a busy few months.?

Here’s our roundup of the things to know about Lens:

PRISM Precipitation data launch

We are excited to introduce a powerful new addition to the Lens Library: PRISM precipitation data, produced by the PRISM Climate Group at Oregon State University. PRISM combines point measurements of climate data with a digital elevation model to generate reliable estimates across the United States. Read the release here.

We not only released our new feature, Lens Lookout, but we also hosted a webinar to show you how to get started. Take a break and watch the recording today!

Labs for Lens: Tracking Wildfire

HydroForecast

HydroForecast is making waves around the world – from Vivatech in Paris to the the UK for a seminar at the ECMWF's headquarters to talking dam safety at Uncommon Dialogue, it's been a busy time for us. And oh, we also made our award-winning industry-leading forecast even better.

Product updates

  • HydroForecast now supports enterprise single sign-on (SSO), available to customers upon request at no additional cost. SSO is an easy and secure way for your team to access HydroForecast. With SSO enabled, users can use a single set of authentication credentials for their organization to log straight into HydroForecast. This means no more extra passwords to remember and a higher level of security. Nice.
  • Our Features team has been working on a new way to visualize the total volume of inflow expected over the upcoming season and understand the probability that flows will be above, below or near normal. V1 is now available in the dashboard for all customers that subscribe to HydroForecast Seasonal!
  • HRRR and HydroForecast Short-term 3: started in June, customers inside the contiguous United States and parts of Canada will now see High-Resolution Rapid Refresh forecasts (HRRR) updating every hour in the HydroForecast dashboard. This work served as a precursor to Short-term 3, our new HydroForecast Short-term model (officially announced July 9th) which now incorporates weather forecasts at a finer temporal resolution and includes a host of new features.

Conversations around HydroForecast and the world

  • Head of Product Laura Read spoke at the Uncommon Dialogue Workshop on Implementing AI hydrologic forecasts for advancing dam safety operations.
  • Jason Smith and Laura Read attended Vivatech in Paris, where we were featured as a start-up partner with ENGIE. Check out this discussion between ENGIE New Ventures and Laura.
  • Upstream’s CTO?Alden Sampson Keefe gave a two day invited seminar at ECMWF's Reading, UK headquarters, sharing lessons on using AI for hydrologic forecasting and earth system modeling that we've learned while building HydroForecast.
