Last week, I made a post on 20 digital marketing careers one can pursue. This post was seen over a thousand times with about 30 people reacting to it. Some found it insightful so I thought I would expand this into a newsletter, you know, to give more details as to how you can get into such roles and what you need to be successful.

If you're new to Digital Marketing, you're welcome! This could very easily be the best or worst career path, depending on you. With so many roles to choose from, it can be overwhelming to know where to start. But fear not, we're here to guide you through the top 10 most common digital marketing roles and the hard and soft skills required for each.

??Digital Marketing Manager

The leader of the pack who oversees all aspects of a company's digital marketing strategy. This role requires a wide range of hard and soft skills, including strategic thinking, data analysis, project management, and team leadership. A common challenge for this role is balancing the need for creativity with data-driven decision-making. This role also involves understand the digital marketing terrain, knowing the platforms and their features, as well as how to take advantage those features to meet business objectives. The master of storytelling who creates and manages a company's content marketing efforts. One common challenge for Content Marketing Managers is creating content that stands out in an oversaturated market. That's where the SEO Specialist comes in, the wizard of search engine optimization who helps drive organic traffic to a company's website. Hard skills required for this role include keyword research, on-page optimization, and link building. The challenge here is keeping up with constantly changing search engine algorithms. This role could be a good entry point.

??Social Media Managers

They are the social butterflies of the digital marketing world, responsible for creating and executing social media campaigns. Hard skills required for this role include content creation, social media platform knowledge, and social media analytics. A common challenge for this role is creating engaging content that resonates with the target audience. Behold, the magicians of paid advertising, responsible for managing and optimizing pay-per-click campaigns. Hard skills required for this role include campaign management, keyword research, and A/B testing. The masters of the inbox, responsible for creating and executing email campaigns. The hard skills required for this role include email marketing automation, segmentation, and copywriting. The digital merchants, responsible for managing a company's online sales platform. Hard skills required for this role include website management, inventory management, and customer service. A common challenge for this role is creating a seamless and enjoyable online shopping experience for customers.

Meet the architects of the digital world, responsible for designing and building websites. Hard skills required for this role include HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and web design principles. With the increased popularity of #artificialintelligence , you may also need to know how to integrate AI and Machine Learning into web development, this will give a huge competitive advantage. The hard skills required for this role include user research, wireframing, and prototyping. A common challenge for this role is balancing the needs of the user with the goals of the business.

Last but not least, we have the Data Analyst, the number cruncher who analyzes data to inform digital marketing strategies. This role demands data analysis, statistics, data visualization, and SQL skills. A common challenge for this role is translating complex data into actionable insights.
