Upper West Side Condominiums - The Luminous Enclave

The 14-storey enclave provides luxurious living with amenities reminiscent of boutique hotels.

Its expansive spaces feature a remarkable lobby that includes a coworking area, a social lounge for gatherings, an entertainment lounge, and a fitness room.

Brief

VISO undertook the design of lobby lighting, focusing on creating fixtures that contrasted distinctly with the lobby's industrial architecture. The core fixtures and sconces were meticulously crafted to achieve a seamless appearance, resembling clouds floating in a natural skyscape, with no light leakage. The design incorporated two different globe sizes, and a total of one hundred clusters were installed throughout the lobby.

Challenge

The installation process occurred in two phases, with special attention given to configuring the smaller globes on-site. This meticulous approach was crucial in achieving the desired effect of seamless, floating clouds within the lobby space. Rods and cables were intricately configured during ongoing revisions to ensure precise placement and alignment of the fixtures.

Solution

White acrylic covered brackets were applied to anchor the cables throughout the spaces. To ensure seam lines were not visible, cables were attached to the rods. The 24" globes were attached to the rods and the smaller globes were configured around these. Integral LED lights were used for ease of individual globe repair. Configurations and intricate revisions were completed on site to ensure the sequencing achieved the design intent and ambient light balance.
