The Upper Right Corner

Gartner has conditioned us. It’s all about the upper right corner…the magic combination of Vision & Ability to Execute. And that is exactly what I see in Dremio, which is why I am thrilled to announce my recent appointment as the first Independent Director on the Dremio Board.

Led by seasoned CEO Billy Bosworth, Dremio is tackling a burgeoning data architecture problem, drastically reducing cost and accelerating time-to-insight, in ways not solved by traditional data warehouses. The complexity and price tag associated with repeatedly copying massive data sets for analysis and intelligence is neither cost-effective nor scalable for most enterprises. Data-driven businesses will require modern data architectures that streamline the process of gathering insights from big data, by leveraging data lakes directly.

Joining a board is a major commitment and both parties have to choose wisely. Introduced through mutual colleagues, Billy made a lasting impression on me from the start. Self-aware, smart and humble, he focused our initial conversations on the human side of work: culture, teams, communications. I found that very telling. That people matter, that teams are made up of real people…and great teams can do great things in a market opportunity as big as this one.

Billy is a collegiate football player with a degree in computer science – not the traditional Silicon Valley DNA – but definitely a relevant background for a CEO in tech. Tomer Shiran, Dremio’s passionate co-founder and Chief Products Officer, knows the data market like few others and shares Billy’s passion to transform how customers derive value and insights from their most important asset: their data. His vision for decoupling compute and data resonates with me and my VMware heritage.
