Salesforce, in collaboration with Hugging Face, Cohere, and Carnegie Mellon University, has launched the AI Energy Score, a benchmarking tool that evaluates the energy efficiency of AI models. The initiative aims to improve transparency around AI’s environmental impact by providing standardized energy ratings, a public leaderboard featuring 166 AI models, and a recognizable 1-to-5-star energy use label. Salesforce is the first AI model developer to disclose its proprietary models’ energy efficiency under this framework.
Debuting at the AI Action Summit, the AI Energy Score is recognized by the French Government and the Paris Peace Forum for its potential to drive sustainable AI development. The tool allows AI developers to benchmark their models via an open portal and promotes market preference for energy-efficient models.
Salesforce’s Agentforce platform integrates sustainability by optimizing AI models for efficiency, reducing the need for energy-intensive training, and leveraging smaller, task-specific language models. The initiative aligns with Salesforce’s broader commitment to responsible AI development, operational cost reduction, and environmental sustainability.
