Apple is reportedly partnering with Alibaba to bring its Apple Intelligence platform to China after rejecting deals with DeepSeek and ByteDance. Initial plans to collaborate with Baidu fell through due to technical issues. The absence of Apple Intelligence in China has contributed to an 11% drop in iPhone sales, allowing domestic brands like Huawei to gain ground. This news comes ahead of the iPhone SE 4 launch, which is crucial for Apple in China and India. Apple previously partnered with OpenAI for its U.S. launch and remains open to deals with other AI providers like Google’s Gemini.

YouTube CEO Neal Mohan identified AI as one of the company’s four major focuses for 2025, highlighting AI-powered tools for creators, such as video ideas, thumbnails, language translation, and age-based content recommendations. The auto-dubbing feature, which helps translate videos, will roll out to all YouTube Partner Program creators this month. However, AI-generated content remains controversial, with concerns about quality dilution versus its role as a creative aid.

To address AI-related risks, YouTube is expanding its detection tools to identify AI-generated likenesses and prevent misuse. This builds on its Content ID system to detect AI-simulated faces and voices. Additionally, YouTube will use machine learning to estimate users' ages for appropriate recommendations, though details on accuracy remain unclear.

Beyond AI, YouTube’s other key priorities include maintaining its cultural relevance, positioning creators as the new Hollywood, and focusing on TV-based viewership, which now surpasses mobile in the U.S.

Perplexity boosted app downloads by 50% through a Super Bowl contest instead of a costly ad. Users entered by asking five questions in the app during the game for a chance to win $1M. This strategy increased engagement and helped new users experience the AI search tool.

Downloads rose to 45,000 on Sunday, up from 30,000 daily, pushing the app to No. 6 in U.S. Productivity charts and No. 49 overall. In contrast, OpenAI and Google’s Super Bowl ads saw no direct download spikes, despite broader exposure.
