Award-winning author Barbara Sher has focused her forty-five years of experience in special education towards developing children's natural love of play to build sensory, motor and social skills. Barbara has worked determinedly to promote children’s play through her books, workshops, CDs and podcasts which have helped countless parents, caregivers and teachers. She has authored ten books on children’s games which are available in ten languages. Her book “Everyday Games for Sensory Processing Disorder” is a collection of 100 sensory-rich games for children and parents. Barbara won the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio SNAP award as wells as Dr. Tony’s Best Vacation Children’s Products award for her CD “28 Instant Songgames” She also contributes regularly to Parenting for Special Needs and Sensory Focus magazines. continue reading...


Verity Smith: a blind international dressage rider, campaigner and author

Verity has loved horses all her life. She started horse-riding lessons at the age of three and soon proceeded to compete in riding events. By the age of eight, her eyesight started to deteriorate. Verity continued equestrian jumping with determination until the age of fifteen when it was no longer safe. Her passion for riding never faded and she soon took up training as a dressage rider, a sport where she has excelled. Verity has represented Great Briton as part of the Para Team GB, competes and wins against able-bodied competitors and is currently ranked 12th in France at Able Bodied Elite Level. Her advocacy for people with disabilities has resulted in the right for people to bring their guide dogs on commercial flights amongst other achievements. She has also penned her autobiography “The Gropers Guide” to change perceptions about disabilities through her story. Jacob Bradshaw?-?a?young artist with autism became a comic book creator using his drawings and creative stories

Jacob was diagnosed with autism at the age of four and has always been a huge fan of superheroes. So much so that he created his own superhero character at an early age based on himself through his creative drawings. Jacob struggled in the classroom and found it hard to get involved in school discussions. His father Led found that he could better communicate with Jacob through his superhero drawings and the related stories. His father combined the superhero character and Jacob’s daily school lessons into flash cards to help and encourage Jacob. The father and son pair also incorporated the superhero character into JetPulse comics, a project to encourage and raise awareness about children and other individuals on the autism spectrum. This project allows Jacob to write his own comic book stories and shows others what life with autism is like. This project has also boosted Jacob’s self-confidence and improved his grades. continue reading...
