Upholding Dignity and Humanity in Substance Use Disorder Treatment

The recent news regarding Evergreen’s federal investigation (evergreen-investigation) and its devastating impact on the participants in their care is a poignant reminder of our core responsibility in the substance use disorder treatment field. We are called to serve our community members with the highest standards of dignity and humanity.

As the President and CEO of RS EDEN , I am deeply moved by the disruption and distress faced by these participants. These individuals, who bravely stepped forward to seek help, deserve stability and comprehensive care—not the uncertainty and turmoil that has unfolded. This situation underscores a vital principle: our participants are entitled to the very best.

At RS EDEN, our commitment extends beyond merely treating substance use disorders. We strive to honor the whole person, recognizing that recovery is as much about regaining dignity as it is about overcoming addiction. Here are our pledges:

  1. Commitment to Dignity: We see the dignity in all our participants and endeavor to reflect this in every interaction. Recovery is about honoring the entire person—mind, body, and spirit.
  2. High-Quality Care: We uphold the highest standards in treatment quality. Our participants deserve excellence, and we continually push ourselves to meet this expectation.
  3. Community and Belonging: We recognize that community and belonging are crucial to recovery. We foster an environment where everyone is valued.
  4. Advocacy and Changing the Narrative: We are staunch advocates for our participants, committed to reshaping narratives that suggest they are less deserving. At RS EDEN, there is no hierarchy of human value. Everyone is respected and valued, regardless of their journey.

To our community, and especially to those affected by recent disruptions, know that RS EDEN is here to support you. We pledge to continue our work with compassion and integrity, ensuring that every person we support is valued and respected.

Together, we can ensure that the field of substance use disorder treatment remains worthy of the trust placed in it by those we serve. Let us all commit to a standard of care that upholds the dignity and humanity of every individual.
