With the relatively recent release of SQL server 2016, you should consider upgrading your SQL server installations and skills.
Not everybody is always able, or ready, to move directly to the very last version. However, if you are more than two versions behind, then it is definitely worth 'catching up'.
Newer versions are packed full of exciting and useful new features and if you are not yet ready to consume them all, then taking 'stepping stones' in the right direction is certainly desirable and often less intimidating.
New features on SQL Server versions:
Even if you have little requirement for new features and increased speeds of later versions, then you still need to remember that support from Microsoft for your products will expire and you should prepare for this.
Even if you have 'extended support', then you need to check these dates and be ready - not just for upgrade procedure itself, but also in upgrading employee skills to make the most of the new system when it is installed.
IT Recall are offering course reductions on SQL Server 2014 courses this month, so if you are ready to upgrade your skills, but perhaps not quite ready for the latest release, then please visit: https://www.dhirubhai.net/company/it-recall-limited
