Upgrade Your Age 40+ Resume With Overwheming Impact Before Someone Else Wins The Job

Basic resumes focus on responsibilities and experience.

It's what most career coaches and outplacement advisers taught you, what your friends and mentors advised you, and how professional resume writers wrote your resume. It's commonly taught and used because it's in the training to prepare career coaches and resume writers for certification tests.

That's why it's average, because it's what everyone else does ... so your resume looks just like everyone else's, even when you try to differentiate yourself. It's fine for a basic resume, when job seekers aren't facing tougher job search issues like ageism, unemployment, career/industry/location change, searching for a raise, promotion, or remote position.

And it's just not good enough to portray yourself as the best candidate for the hiring manager to choose, when you're in your 40s, 50s, or 60s.

Because when you're facing more difficult problems, you need different solutions.

Think about it ... When you're over 40, you're perceived by employers to be more expensive - All of your experience means many annual raises. So for employers to pay more, they need you to prove you can do more.

All that responsibilities and experience proves is what you were supposed to do, but it forces employers to guess at what's far more important to them ... if you were a huge success in fulfilling your responsibilities, or a big failure.

You know you did a great job in your past career, but all the responsibilities and experience in the world doesn't prove your success to a hiring manager. You need to instead focus hiring managers on the impact you provided to prove you're the top candidate, rather than responsibilities/experience that only proves you're expensive.

When you're perceived as an expensive candidate, without proving success, hiring managers make other choices, often less expensive and less experienced choices ... while describing you as overqualified.

It doesn't have to be that way. If you're losing jobs when you're qualified to less experienced (and less qualified) competitors, you can learn how to change and succeed. Or you can keep doing the same things that are causing your job search to fail.

I help people solve the most difficult job search problems, including job search acceleration, getting past ATSs, ageism, remote positions, product/job function/career/industry/ geographic change, unemployment, "bouncy" recent career path, job search turnaround, seeking raise/promotion, industry in decline/consolidation, long term gaps, family leave, or other of the most challenging job search issues.
