Updating Quantity Fields in CO-PA

If you are using SAP Costing-Based Profitability Analysis (CO-PA), then you know that mapping objects to value fields is key to ensuring the reports are complete and accurate. Typically you assign "amount" fields such as sales conditions, general ledger accounts, and production variances. However, you should also map "quantity" fields such as sales and production quantities to value fields (which you set up with a “quantity” attribute in transaction KEA6). Most sales and contribution margin reports contain these quantity values (for example Net Weight of products sold) in order to provide the appropriate context for the reported revenue and cost of sales figures.
In this blog I discuss three areas where you make assignments to quantity fields in CO-PA:
1. Assign Quantity fields from Sales Documents: This is the most common assignment because most postings in CO-PA come from sales documents. You will, therefore, want to map the sales quantity that led to the revenue postings from billing documents or sales orders (if you have activated Transfer of Incoming Sales Orders using transaction KEKF) by going to transaction KE4M or by accessing the following configuration menu path: Controlling -> Profitability Analysis -> Flows of Actual Values -> Transfer of Incoming Sales Orders -> Assign Quantity Fields or Controlling -> Profitability Analysis -> Flows of Actual Values -> Transfer of Billing Documents -> Assign Quantity Fields. In the next screen, click “New Entries” and enter the sales quantity fields and corresponding value fields that you want to map. [Click here to continue reading...]

4 年In greenfield anyway we suggest to go for account based only. With the introduction of Prediction Ledger - Sales Order data can be transferred to COPA. Split of COGS and Production Variance is already available in Account based COPA now. This makes it the best case to use Account based COPA instead of Costing based COPA. Nice article though!

4 年Hi John Jordan , yes this still valid, we have a lot of discussion in S/4 related to COPA, where companies that are using COPA cost based still have some blocks to move to account based. this is a pattern that will change in the future, as SAP is phasing out Costing based. in a greenfield approach companies already started using account based, as this is embedded there, so there is no need to start costing based. the goal is to change the view from costing based to account based, Slowly this is turning to reality, same as it happened with Material Ledger.
