Updates

Hello,

I hope you've had a good weekend. As promised, please find all of the updates for this week.

500 Words, the UK’s most successful children’s writing competition, opens tomorrow Tuesday 26 September

We want as many of you to get your schools involved with the competition as we possibly can, and so we have created a useful guide for headteachers and school leaders (in partnership with the BBC), that will help you to enter your school.

Read the 500 Words guide here

Alternatively, be inspired by our recent Twitter Spaces Discussion with Helen Freeman from Oxford University Press, Anthony McGeeney, Headteacher, and Simon Hunt ('Mr Hunt from the Front') and find out:

What the competition entails Why Headteachers and school leaders should consider entering their school How easy it is for teachers The amazing research that takes place about children's writing * How to enter

This week's PDF Template: Ofsted Information Checklist In line with the most recent Ofsted Handbook, September 2023.

The more prepared you are for an inspection, the less stressful it will be on the day, so we have created a handy checklist for you to help you get organised in advance.

We recommend that you print this out, find all of the relevant documents, make sure that they are up to date, write notes on what needs to be done as you go along, and then file this along with the listed documents in a folder ready for Ofsted.

You'll then be super organised!

Listen to our Twitter/X Spaces tomorrow, Tuesday 26th September at 7:15 pm, live on Twitter/X

Suitable for: Headteachers, School Leaders, Pastoral Leads, SEMH Leads

Join us as we chat to Huw Lloyd, Global Professional Instructor at CPI. Huw has worked in education for over 20 years, working across secondary settings in mainstream, special and PRU education; most recently running a PRU and Special School for SEMH Pupils. He has held numerous positions on senior leadership teams and was responsible for behaviour and attendance in each. He has worked with some of the most challenging young people in areas of high deprivation and low aspirations, working tirelessly to break down barriers; helping pupils to access further education and to promote a more inclusive attitude towards education and in reducing exclusions.

Lucy, Jonathan and Huw will be talking about:

* How pupil's behaviour has changed since the pandemic, with students showing a lack of resilience to learning, routines and expectations.

* The importance of a consistent approach from staff to behaviour management, parent support and a positive learner-teacher relationship
