Updates to Google's MUM Algorithm
This month Google has updated its MUM algorithm to recognise when multiple authoritative sources on the internet reach a consensus. This is an attempt to help guide people towards more authoritative sources of information which might be useful when we're trying to figure out what's for real.
Google's MUM algorithm gets an update to better recognise when multiple high authority sources come to a consensus
So last year, Google launched an update called?MUM?- an update aimed at increasing the level of sophistication of queries that Google could handle.
?Well, the?MUM has received an update?meant to recognise better when several trustworthy sources agree on a thing - making it more likely to be "true". A kind of AI fact-checking to help us determine when information is coming from legitimate sources.
?The benefits are (hopefully) higher quality of information across Google search results. Which I think we can all agree is a worthy goal. The key will be the implementation, how Google will continue monitoring the update and minimising?bias?as much as possible.?

What does this mean??
With the caveats above, I'm hoping that it means it's harder to write an opinion on the internet and expect it to be passed as fact. I'm guessing that depending on the success of the update, our content will need to be verified by several independent sources before showing at the top of particular search results, e.g. health or finance. Google will also provide better referencing for answers it puts at the top of search results. Example above.
How's it impact us??
From a business standpoint, it'll depend greatly on whether we are in one of these niches where well-researched information is critical. I see more of an impact personally when I'm looking for advice on medical issues, etc.?
If you want to appear at the very top of search results for these industries, your content will likely require correlation from other sources.?
