Updates on accessibility in Higher Education and the Public Sector

Obviously the S.M.A.R.T. Foundation UK is promoting the work being done here in Southampton University in the hope it will, sooner rather than later, cascade down to Secondary Education, not currently compliant with International Accessibility Standards.

Specifically ISO 30071.1 for DSE Colour Contrast Calibration that effectively mitigates the common affects of over-exposure to sub-optimally calibrated display screen interface / bright white background or "very high contrast" to text, causing early onset binocular vision stress, blurred or worse double vision, presenting in myopic and asthenopic disease exhibiting in 2D adaptations.

Clearly a "Product Safety" and "Public Eye-Health" issue apart from complying with Accessibility Standards but, as yet, are not being enabled to make the "reasonable adjustments" to mitigate the predictable risk, 58% of DSE operators in the workplace, of mirroring the workplace "visual repetitive stress injuries".

An event I think all teachers and educator aught to attend.
