Update Your Google Settings for Preferred Order Method
Digital Restaurant Association
We champion restaurants to thrive in a digital world
We wanted to keep you updated on some changes in the online ordering world. Google has sunset its ability to directly order from restaurants on its search and map results, the “Order with Google” button. Now when a customer clicks on “order” on a Google Search or Maps result, it will direct customers to any number of third-party delivery platforms or the restaurant’s direct ordering platform.
This now means that third-party delivery platforms are getting more power and will be competing for the top slot on Google.
What this means for you as restaurant operators and owners: Now is the time to update your Google listings with your preferred ordering and delivery partner. If you have a preferred platform that offers you the best deal, please make sure to mark it as the preferred option. Here are the step-by-step instructions:
With this Google change, it’s crucial you guide your customers toward the most profitable ordering option for your restaurant. This not only helps you avoid high fees but it also ensures a better experience for your customers and you maintain control over your valuable customer data. ChowNow’s research shows that diners are four times more likely to pick an ordering method when it is marked as “preferred by business.”??
Take action now to protect your restaurant by setting your preferred ordering partner on Google.
