Update on TMX
I wanted to give you an update on the Trans Mountain Expansion (TMX) project. To be clear, it is an investment in Canada’s future, and our Government remains committed to a clear and reliable path forward for the project.
Following the court's recent ruling, today we announced three things to substantially move the project forward.
First, we have instructed the NEB to reconsider its recommendations taking into account the effects of project-related marine shipping. The NEB will be required to report back within 22 weeks. During this time, the NEB will hear from Canadians and provide participant funding so that the views of Indigenous groups are well represented.
Second, we will present to the NEB recent government actions to protect the southern resident killer whale and to implement the Oceans Protection Plan. These major initiatives were not considered by the NEB in their recent ruling. The Oceans Protection Plan is the most significant investment ever made ($1.5 billion) to protect Canada's oceans and coastlines.
Third, we intend to appoint a special marine technical advisor to the NEB. We are committed to ensuring that the NEB has the expertise and capacity to deliver the best advice to the Government.
No relationship is more important to the Government and to Canada than the one with Indigenous peoples. Our Government remains committed to finding the best path forward following the decision of the Federal Court of Appeal (FCA) in consultation with Indigenous groups.
TMX is an investment in Canada’s future. We need to diversify our markets beyond the United States to protect and grow good jobs in Canada, while continuing to deliver the highest levels of marine protection that Canadians expect.

6 年MP Kent Hehr, if you support the Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion, then why did you, an Alberta MP vote against Bill S-245 yesterday along with your Liberal and NDP colleagues in the House of Commons that would have declared the Trans Mountain Pipeline in the national interest of Canadians? ?
President at Skybattle Resources Ltd.
6 年Kent, you support C-69, and there is no clear, reliable path for Kinder Morgan, your government can’t seem to even propose a clear path forward for Canadians, on a pipeline vital to our infrastructure after messing up this file for the last two years. And stop saying that this is all Harper’s fault, it’s year three of your mandate, grow-up.

6 年Those are really great things.? It's too bad that a Marine expert wasn't added to the NEB years ago. Why is Vancouver able to increase its coal export with more environmental impact and US product while it blocks Canadian oil?
