Update - My Journey

Update - My Journey

I've just completed my one year anniversary since selling MX Vice to Pierce AB in May 2018. It's been a long year and it actually feels like I have managed to cram three years into one as so much has happened.

The main reason for me selling was to have a business support network around me that would help me to grow MX Vice and have the opportunity to push forward new ideas and projects that could help shape the way people access and consume content.

It's been a huge learning curve for me, the last company I was employed with was Withy King Solicitors back in 2006 so it's been a while since I have had to work in a corporate structure. The company has really changed, we now have a 2500 sqft studio complex that house three TV Studios, one Podcast Studio plus an open plan office and insights center.

There are many benefits to working with a larger company with so many resources, but there are also some challenges but nothing that has surprised me. Going from a company with three full-time employees to 500+, was always going to offer new challenges to us, especially with how agile we were. Rather than light the two-wheel world up with our ideas and projects we have been working to solidify what we have, working through processes and implement a structure ready for the next round of growth. As well as our six full-time members of staff in MX Vice we now have German, Italian, Spanish and French editors/translators that are helping us reach many more people who are interested in motocross.

One highlight this year is live video and being able to not only stream a British Motocross event live but actually produce a show. In the next two weeks, we will have produced our own TV show for 24MX that will be broadcast daily and we will look to incorporate live TV into more content throughout the year. I believe that video/tv is the right place for brands and companies based in the two-wheel sector to invest in and coupled with social media there are some easy but effective ways brands can really drive engagement.

With all the changes we have gone through so far this year, one thing has remained and that is our hunger to produce the best content out there in the motocross world, this has helped our growth, reach and engagement reach another level. As well as MX Vice and Pierce AB's Facebook channels for the UK, US, Eastern Europe, and Asia the team have been producing Monster Energy's MXGP videos this year, as well as managing and developing brands, MXGP teams and riders social media and content. Over the past 12 months, we have produced the following:

We produced all the content on these accounts, replied to users and amplified content.

The numbers above are pretty incredible and something we are hugely proud about and looking into content articles and posts that the team and myself are creating is unreal and one of the key reasons as to why between us we have been offered multiple opportunities over the past couple of years.

In June 2019 the team and I produced the following:

  • 929 MX Vice Photos
  • 85 JWR Photos
  • 275 24MX Photos
  • 457 Youth & Amateur Photos
  • 17 x MX Vice Videos
  • 11 x 24MX Videos (YouTube, Insta, Facebook)
  • 2 x JWR Videos (Insta, Facebook)
  • 5 x Monster Energy
  • 12 Podcast Shows
  • 854 Facebook Posts
  • 765 Twitter Posts and Messages
  • 159 Instagram Posts
  • 59 24MX Magazine Articles
  • 35 Interviews
  • 81 MX Vice Articles

I'm lucky to work with some very talented people that all the share the same vision as myself. We have not even scratched the surface as to where we want to go with content and MX Vice and we are sat on some amazing ideas that when the time is right we'll be able to develop.

For me, there is so much happening not only right now but over the next 4-5 years and I'm very excited to see how people consume content and how technology is evolving and how we can utilise that to build audiences. I have learned so much about ecommerce in the past 12 months and I'm hoping that I have the opportunity to develop this knowledge further.

Great work. Always said someone needa to up the tv coverage, podcasts, social media. Especially in the UK where we are sooooo far behind. US amateurs have a bigger following than the best British motocross athletes
