Update on the Legal Battle with USMC Medal of Honor Recipient Woody Williams

Many of you have supported me throughout this past year with my difficult time dealing with Medal of Honor recipient, WWII Marine, Woody Williams. Several of you who were skeptical at first of this situation took the time to read about the case, and thus, became supporters of my historical research. Several of you even bought my book "Flamethrower” and saw all the detail I have dedicated to the subject matter proving my claims that Woody is a borderline “Stolen Valor” case. We historians, Marines and veterans tout many creeds, some of which are to tell the truth and honor the past. If we do not do so, we have false history and false heroes. Moreover, if we do not study the past properly, then we cannot learn from it. However, my book is much more than about Woody Williams. It probably gives one of the best detailed descriptions of the Japanese enemy our Marines faced during WWII and one of the most detailed accounts of the 3d Marine Division on Iwo Jima and its commander, Lieutenant General Graves Erskine. Moreover, it details the evolution of amphibious warfare and the key players in its development, something the Marines bequeathed the Allies with during WWII. And last, it gives a detailed biography of the Iwo Jima garrison commander, General Kuribayashi. He was the most redoubtable commander our Marines faced during WWII and the biography I have of him is probably the most thorough one in not only Western historiography, but also in Japanese historiography. So, it is sad that Woody continues to try and prevent the publication of this book because he does not want the truth to come out about his misrepresentations about his past—his numerous Sea Tales. In doing so, he is also trying to prevent the stories of many Marine Corps Heroes from coming out which this book documents for the first time. For those who have been following the case, below is a new article that appeared in the West Virginia Record yesterday.

Bryan I have read your outstanding scholarly work and highly recommend it to all. I am sorry this has become a painful burden to you and your family. I admire your faithfulness to a historian’s unwavering commitment to the truth. No doubt you will prevail. It is a most unfortunate waste of time and treasure. S/F
