Update on ILA/USMX Discussions - 11

You've likely seen in the press that the ILA and USMX are due to recommence formal negotiations from January 7th, 2025 - we're all hoping for either a resolution or an extension of the extension of the legacy contract.? There has been considerable movement in the background to motivate both sides to come to an agreement.

There is significant momentum and pressure for the two sides to come to an agreement although, as it stands, a work stoppage still has a very high probability.?

We've also seen ocean carrier notices communicating disruption surcharges for affected ports that we want to make you aware of:

  • CMA CGM is implementing a surcharge from 1/18/25 for $1300/20', $2000/40' and HC, and $2500 per 45' dry containers and $1300/20', $2500 per 40/45' reefer containers
  • Hapag Lloyd is implementing surcharges as of 1/20/25 for $520/20' and $1700/40'?
  • ZIM? is implementing a surcharge as of 1/10/25 for $1000/20' and $2000/40'

If you have imports or exports booked to travel through an east coast or gulf coast port in the days leading up to the January 15th deadline, please work with your Alba team to ensure your shipments aren't caught out by any work stoppage that's called.?

This situation is likely to evolve rapidly.

We will continue to bring you updates as we get them.? If you have questions on specific shipments, please contact your local Alba support team.
