UPDATE: Global Futures of Climate

COURSE UPDATES: Recent Climate Events and New Solutions

Climate Anxiety (and Eco-Anxiety) are increasing among young people and the Global Futures of Climate Course will help you to be clear on what is actually happening amid the media noise. Most importantly it will help you to empower yourself and others to understand what can be done to turn things around. Understanding what’s actually happening, and knowing what to do to help, is known to reduce climate anxiety.?

If you’ve been following the global news of extreme weather this year, you will know why the month of July has been called the month that climate change became exponential. July had the hottest global air temperatures on record, and the hottest global sea surface temperatures on record (i.e. in the last 120,000 years).

These extreme temperatures manifested in unprecedented floods, fires and hurricanes across the Northern Hemisphere, and parts of the Southern Hemisphere. August and September continued to break the July records. In Australia, we have been warned to expect extreme temperatures this summer with severe risk of bush fires like 2019.?

Furthermore, the extreme temperatures in both the Northern and Southern Hemispheres have led to even more intense melting of Sea Ice in both Antarctica and Greenland, which increases the risks of serious sea-level rise in coming decades.?

The UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, famously claimed a couple of months ago: “The era of global warming has ended. The era of global boiling has arrived.”?

Because of these recent climate events, I have completed a major update of all twelve "Global Futures of Climate" lessons to include the new information.

?

ON A POSITIVE NOTE: As fast as the climate extremes become news, those climate scientists, researchers, and activists who are tirelessly working to turn around the worst impacts of climate change, are producing innovations and writing articles designed to help us to be empowered to take action to reverse global boiling, mitigate what we can change, and adapt to what we cannot change. E.g. Renewable energy production is also breaking records;

?

Each of the 12 lessons how includes updates (on both the challenges and the solutions). This course will inform you about the scientific facts and most importantly, what you can do as professionals, executives, and concerned citizens to help our enterprises, our communities, and our young people cope with a dramatically changing planet and be part of the solution.
